Kentucky man who won Powerball jackpot lands in Florida jail days later

LOUISVILLE,Ky.(AP)—AKentuckyPowerballwinnerwasarrestedandchargedwithkickingapoliceofficerinFloridadaysafterhewona$167millionjackpot.
JamesS.Farthing,whogoesbyShannon,foundoutSundaythathewonthestate’sbiggesteverjackpotafterhismothercalledhim,accordingtoamediareleasefromtheKentuckyLottery.ThelotterysaidFarthingandhismotherweresplittingthewinnings.
ButFarthing,50,wasinaFloridajailbymidweek,accordingtomediareports.HehasbeenchargedwithbatteryofapoliceofficerandresistingarrestafteraPinellasCountySheriff’sdeputywasattemptingtobreakupafightbetweenFarthingandanotherpersoninahotelwhenFarthingkickedtheofficerintheface,accordingtoapolicereportwrittenTuesday.TheofficertoldFarthingtoturnaroundputhishandsbehindhisback,butFarthingattemptedtoflee,thepolicereportsaid.
FarthingwasbookedintojailearlyWednesdaymorningandremainedincustodyFriday,accordingtothecounty’sonlinejailrecords.
