Kentucky family turns to motel after home lost in fire sparked by lawn mower

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WKYT/CNN/CNN Newsource) — A Kentucky family lost their home in a fire they believe was sparked by a lawn mower.
A Kentucky family is expressing gratitude for their safety after a devastating house fire, which they attribute to a lawn mower. Michael Rice, who lost his home in the blaze, recounted the harrowing experience.

“It went up so fast there wasn’t anything you could do. The smoke was so bad I couldn’t even breathe to go back in and get anything else,” Rice told the station.
The incident began when Rice’s son mowed the lawn on Friday afternoon and returned the lawn mower to the garage, as was their routine.
“It was the kitchen smoke alarm. I ran into the kitchen and see smoke coming through the door from the garage. I opened the door, and the whole lawn mower was on fire,” Rice explained when speaking to reporter with WKYT.
Despite efforts to extinguish the flames, the fire quickly spread, leaving the home a total loss. Rice expressed relief that his family escaped unharmed.
