Investigators call fire near 7th and Kentucky ‘intentional’, investigation still ongoing

QUINCY, Ill — UPDATE: Investigators with the Quincy Police Department tell KHQA that it has been determined that the fire was intentionally started, and the investigation remains ongoing at this time.
ORIGINAL: The Quincy Fire Department responded to a structure fire in downtown Quincy around 7 a.m. Monday near Seventh and Kentucky streets.
The building was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived on scene.
Firefighters battled the blaze from the ground and from ladders.
Seventh and Eighth streets, from State Street to York Street, are currently closed to traffic.
Quincy Fire Chief Steve Salrin told KHQA the building was empty and scheduled for demolition.
Five engine companies, along with EMS and other emergency personnel, responded to the scene.
