Buffalo Trace Distillery begins cleanup after Kentucky River crests

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Assessment and cleanup has started as Buffalo Trace Distillery picks up the pieces after historic flooding cripples the area.
The Kentucky River crested at 48.24 feet, the second highest level the distillery has seen in it’s more than 200 year history. A large amount of the Buffalo Trace property is still under water, and crews have started the clean-up process in other safe areas, the company said in a statement Wednesday.
The distillery is still accessing the damage. In a statement Wednesday, officials said “damages are substantial and recovery efforts will be ongoing for some time.”

The distillery will remain closed to visitors through Friday, April 11, with the hopes of reopening soon.
The Easter at the Trace Easter Egg Hunt for this weekend has been canceled, and ticketholders have been contacted via email. 
The public is asked to remember that only select team members and recovery crews are allowed on the property.
