‘We don’t see any end in sight’: Ky. animal rescue sees overwhelming increase in intakes

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Many animal rescue groups exists to relieve animal shelters from overcrowding or to take on animals with more complex needs.
But one central Kentucky rescue is putting their efforts on pause after becoming overwhelmed with intakes.
“There’s a shelter that we work with in the rural area that since January, they’ve put over 80 animals to sleep, and its heartbreaking,” said Anita Spreitzer, vice president and general manager of Paws 4 a Cause.
Rescue groups like Paws 4 the Cause in Lexington are the saving grace for numerous rural shelters across Kentucky, but Spreitzer said even rescues like theirs are reaching their breaking point.
