Former University of Kentucky student pleads guilty in racist attack captured on video WCYB

LEXINGTON, Ky. (TND) — A former University of Kentucky student pleaded guilty on Monday to assault and other charges for a racist attack on a Black woman on campus in 2022.
Sophia Rosing pleaded guilty to four counts of fourth-degree assault, one count of disorderly conduct and one count of alcohol intoxication, her attorney told CNN. A felony charge of third-degree assault on a police or probation officer was dropped as part of her guilty plea.
Rosing was banned from the campus after physically assaulting and spouting racial slurs more than 200 times in 10 minutes at Kylah Spring, who was working at the front desk of a resident hall at the time of the incident. She was arrested the night of the assault that was captured on video and went viral on multiple social media platforms.
Her attorney, Fred Peters, said that “people got to apologize and express feelings face-to-face” during Monday’s mediation.
Rosing is facing 12 months in jail, 100 hours of community service and a $25 fine after her guilty plea.
