OWENSBORO, Ky. (WKYT) – A Kentucky doctor has agreed to have his license put on probation after allegedly hitting a patient.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports that Dr. William Martin is an orthopedic surgeon in Owensboro.
Witnesses say Martin was operating on a patient and having trouble removing an instrument from the patient’s shoulder. He then allegedly raised his voice, “yanked” the instrument out and struck the patient on the right side of their face.
The incident occurred in August 2023 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.
Martin denies the allegations, claiming that he would never intentionally hit a patient and that it would not be possible given his position in the operating room.
Under his agreement with the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure, Martin’s license will be on probation for five years.
